5 AWESOME THINGS - August 2024
[1]
HOOPLA
The library, right on your phone or tablet! With a library card, you can access eBooks, comics, audiobooks, and movies for free. Check it out [here]. Bonus: I just finished “ZERO STARS: Do NOT Recommend”—a funny yet spot-on commentary on modern society.

Makoto Fujimura
I’m captivated by his short video on the redemptive, creative practice of Kintsugi. The themes of creating beauty from brokenness really resonate with me.
[3]
The Sea in Between
This album plays weekly in my studio, and there’s a beautiful documentary about how a family on Mayne Island hosted Josh Garrels and his band to record in a unique way. Here’s a short sample from the documentary.

Lily Clark
I recently discovered this artist and am super inspired by her use of natural objects to create such peaceful artwork.

PomoFocus
A new website I’ve been using to stay focused and productive. It’s simple: 25 minutes of complete focus (no devices), followed by a 5-minute break to check texts. After three rounds, you get a longer 15-minute break. As someone who works from home and is easily distracted, it’s been a game-changer for me.
The three core values of what I want to live out as an artist are CREATION+ EXPLORATION + KINDNESS. The 5 awesome things should help to inspire you to a bit of each.
Do you have any awesome recommendations? I’d love to hear about them and maybe share them with others—drop me an email!
Your friend,
DAVID
P.S. If you’re looking for smaller, affordable original artworks, I’ve put a few small sketches up for sale on my website.
